The NOREN (Possessive Genitive) Case

Indefinite

  • Ending: -(r)en

  • If the owner ends in a consonant, add "-en" to the noun or last adjective in a noun phrase.

  • If the owner ends in a vowel, add "-ren" to the noun or last adjective in a noun phrase.

  • Examples:

    • EtxeREN - house's, MutilEN - boy's
    • Mutil batEN liburua da.: It is one boy's book.
    • Neska batEN liburuak dira.: They are one girl's books.

NOREN - Whose?

  • If you want to ask "Whose is something?",

  • use "norena" (if there is a single definite object)

    • "Norena da liburua?": "Whose is the book?"
  • or Norenak (if there are several objects)

    • "Norenak dira liburuak?": Whose are the books?).
